 What is cervical spondylosis?

Cervical spondylosis is a wear and tear of the vertebrae and discs in the neck. Age related problem starts usually after 30. With the age the edges of the vertebrae sometimes develop small, rough areas of bone protrusions called osteophytes and the discs become thinner.

In some people, these bone protrusions might press on the muscles and ligaments around them causing pain otherwise the degeneration itself doesn’t cause symptoms

What are the symptoms of cervical spondylosis?

• Neck pain.  On and off. The pain may spread to the shoulders and base of the skull. It might get worse with the neck movement or sprain. Persistent pain may affect some patients.

• Stiff neck

• Headaches mainly back of your head.

• Pins and needles may happen due to nerve irritation in the neck .

• Very rarely, problems with walking and bladder functions problems

What are the treatments for cervical spondylosis ?

Exercise your neck and stay active : don’t lie down in the bed and give up to the pain , you may need alittle bit of rest during the time of pain only but once you feel you are able to move your neck start exercise , you will never do more damage when you move your neck.

Make sure you have the right posture at work and home, upright position is recommended , firm pillow may help too.
